It was developed in both North America and in Europe during the 19th century and, currently, bears the American name but its style is more influenced by Europeans. It is played between two teams of seven players (one as a goalie) who face each other in a pool, disputing possession of the ball to score in the opposing goal, without being able to touch the ground with their feet or the edge of the pool with their hands, for four seven minute quarters.
