Open Waters is a discipline that consists in swimming in places like the sea, lakes, or rivers instead of doing it in a pool. During the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, the swimming competition was held in open waters. The first marathon swimming competition of the Olympic Games took place in Beijing 2008 where competitors swam 10 km. The World Championships of FINA are 5,10 and 25 kilometres races.
